Veterinary
referral
There are many factors which can cause or
contribute to the development of behavioural problems in dogs and cats
including current, developing or previous medical conditions. Therefore to
safeguard the health and welfare of your pet appointments can only be made on
veterinary referral. After examining your pet to rule out or treat any possible
underlying disease your vet will need to complete a Royal College of Veterinary
Surgeons approved referral form which (with kind permission of CABTSG) can be
downloaded
here and then printed out.
Consultations - What to Expect
A consultation will take place in your home, or
wherever the pet is resident and will last for approximately two hours. During
that time all aspects that could be influencing your pet's behaviour will be
explored and an individualised behaviour modification programme suitable for
both you and your pet will be devised. Appropriate handouts will be provided at
the time of the consultation and a few days later you will receive a full
written report and behaviour modification programme, a copy of which will also
be sent to your veterinary surgeon.
After the
consultation
In most cases a follow-up appointment will be arranged
for approximately one month after the initial consultation. This again will be
in your own home and will last for approximately 30 minutes, although in cases
where there are multiple or complex behavioural problems a follow up
consultation may last for an hour and occasionally more than one additional
consultation may be required.
